Midwifery Services

La Rosa Midwifery offers individualized care serving low-risk, healthy women at home. Each woman and each pregnancy is unique and deserves individualized and comprehensive care. I strive to build a team with my clients and give informed consent to ensure that they can make the right choices for their family, as I believe that building trust between care provider and family during the prenatal period is an integral part of the process. It is also important that you as a client and as a family feel like you can ask as many or as little questions as you want and that you feel heard throughout the entire process.

The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
The Midwives Model of Care includes:
  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.

The Birth

Once you are in active labor, your midwife will arrive at your home with either another Licensed Midwife and/or a trained birth assistant. This will be determined by ongoing communication between you and your midwife that begins with early labor. We will stay approximately 3-6 hours after the birth, including until both mother and baby are stable and ready to settle into bed for their well deserved postpartum nap.

What to expect:
  • Monitor vitals and well-being of mother
  • Monitor fetal heart rate
  • Encourage adequate nourishment and hydration of mother
  • Monitor labor progress
  • Assess newborn's transition immediately after birth and over the next few hours
  • Promote immediate skin-to-skin with mother
  • Routine delayed cord clamping
  • Assist with establishment of breastfeeding
  • Perform vaginal/perineal repair when needed
  • Belly binding with Cloth/Elastic Bandage Wrap

Post-Partum Care

This is a time of transition, where many things are changing and returning to homeostasis, whether you are welcoming your first child, or going from a family of five to six. I am here to answer all those little questions that inevitably come up and to ensure the health and wellbeing of you and your new baby during this time. My care will continue through your 6th week post partum, but hopefully a relationship that lasts a lifetime has been established. There is nothing I love more than having my clients send pictures of baby's growth and coming in for little visits throughout the years.

What to expect:
  • Phone call within 24hrs of the birth
  • Home visit at day 2 after birth, 1 week and 2 week.
  • Office visits at 4 week or 6 weeks as well as a monthly extended postpartum care clinic
  • Birth Certificate and Social Security paperwork given
  • Weight check of the baby at each visit and as needed
  • Ensure the mother/birthing person is healing / recovering well
  • Extra visits if there are any issues or as needed
